It's definite...

We really are moving to Dominica in August! We found out on Saturday and we're both really really excited. Of course we haven't stopped reading up about it since.
It's definitely going to be an adventure! Some intersting facts about Dominica are:
- much of the island is protected as natural wilderness (nicknamed the 'isle of nature')
-volcanic activity provides boiling lakes, and black sand beaches
-most Dominicans are descendents of African slaves
- one of the seasons of Survivor was located there
-population- 70,000
- Dominica has 365 rivers
- several scenes from Pirates of the Carribbean were filmed there
-especially vulnerable to hurricanes, as it is located in the hurricane region
-bananas dominate it's economy
- it is considered a 3rd world country
This is the beach in Portsmouth, where we'll be living
Not too shabby right?

  24. Hi, Congratulations to your husband on his acceptance to Ross and your big move.

I am glad you found my blog. You are so smart for trying to get things in order prior to your arrival. We did the same thing and our move to the Island went very smooth with only a few surprises :). I was in contact with a couple of spouses and they helped me find a place, a car, create a what to ship to the Island list and tons of other good information. We are home for another month and then we go back to the Island, my son was really sick and we felt more comfortable wih the health care in the states but he is better now and we are looking forward to getting back to my husband Nick and our home. I can help you with anything you may need, when I get back to the Island I can look into apartments for you, you are going to want to be picky and get a nice place, we LOVE ours and are so happy we found such a clean place. My e-mail address is
    qtpiemiller101@yahoo.com
You can e-mail me anytime with questions.
