Snowed In

posted on: 12.10.2008

Anyone else feeling a little "snowed in" the past 2 days?

Since this is my first winter with an active child, I'm in need of some fun ideas for entertaining. The only thing I can think of right now to do is Discovery Gateway, the Aquarium, and Jungle Jims... any more ideas? My goal is to get out and do something just for her at least 3 days week. Where are some fun places you guys take your kids in the winter?
Think busy 2 year old...

  1. You're such a good mom. I used to be proud of myself if I got Avie out once a week (now she has preschool, so it's much easier). The only other idea I can think of (besides my usual Costco, Target & Discovery) is the library. Love it and they do fun crafts and storytimes (only been once), too. Can't wait to read the other suggestions. I'm a pretty boring mom. I miss you. Let's do an outing together. I'm always up for getting my butt out of the house!!

  2. I am in the same boat you are. Always trying to think of something else we can do in the winter. Max is a busy boy, too. Two ideas: I like to take Max swimming in the winter. An indoor swimming pool of course. It's always fun and something different to do. In SLC, I know of Stiner, the U's indoor pool, and the JCC, and I am sure there are others. I also have taken him to an afternoon movie at the theater. Tickets are cheaper in the afternoon, it's usually pretty empty so if we make some noise it's not a big deal, and it's always a fun outing! Good luck! And keep us updated on what you end up doing :)

  3. When Chelsea was in Philly, she and a couple girlfriends with same-age kids did weekly play groups where one day each mom would plan a fun activity for all the kids, and watch them for a couple hours. They did everything from play-dough to fingerpainting to trips to the zoo and children's museums. It seemed perfect because even though she only had to plan one big outing/activity per week, Robbie was out playing three or four (which also meant mom got some alone time!) I thought it was a great socializing activity as well...and I'm sure there are some cute 2-year olds back in SLC!

  4. Ok, so the Zoo Lights really are a blast! You should definitely go. I think that we are going to go again... Ava loved it. Some fun indoor places for kids... hmmm You can always go to Little Gym, or a gymnastics class. Also, the library has story time which I always loved. Makeovers/Photo shoot at the house is always fun! Those are just some ideas. Keep in mind I'm a first time MOM, and she's only a year....

  5. I'm impressed you are trying for 3 days a week. Good job!! As for my ideas, I simply don't get out too much, but love to do at least a craft a day with my kids at home. I think of some kind of craft the night before, it can go along with the month and we do things around that idea. As for places, I don't get out too often, but these ae some fun places: The library, kangaroo zoo, cottonwood pool, boondock-inside toys, bowling, movie mondays are for moms and their kids (look in the newspaper),the museum, etc. I tend to see ideas in the paper. Online is also a great resource for ideas. I know this probably isn't much help, but maybe one of these will be fun to try.

  6. We love Kindermusik, Little Gym, the Library, Bouncin' off the Walls, Swimming, Thanksgiving Point (you just get a pass for you for $55 and it is free for kids under 3 and you can go unlimited to the dinosaur museum, farm, gardens, etc. It depends on if and when you would be moving if it would be worth it.

  8. We time Harrison running up and down the stairs on "Snowed In" days. He's really excited when he improves his time by a second or two. Hey, just saying anything to get the energy out.

  9. Oh I wish I could be more helpful but we kind of hibernate during the winter. (I love the excuse to stay indoors...but I'm a total homebody.) We build lots of forts and obstacle courses and chase each other around the house. And dance in the strobe light. You can borrow it anytime.
