Tate's Helmet Debut...(drumroll please)
Last Tuesday Tate got her helmet- I kind of don't know how I feel about it yet? I think I've been through all the emotions- thinking it's hilarious, feeling insecure about all the stares, loving how it squeezes her cheeks together and squishes one eye, gagging at the smell (think football helmet meets smelly feet- yuck!) and hating how she doesn't quite act herself when it's on. One thing is for sure... she still looks darling! The first thing I wanted to do when she got it was decorate it- she is way too girly to have a plain white helmet. After 3 trips to the fabric store, one trip to Pebbles in my Pocket, a craft night at my moms, 20 dollars and about 8 hours later I had enough flower bows to match most her outfits!! I ran several ideas through my head and decided stitched felt flowers would be the cutest, easiest and cheapest to make. I just glued a small piece of velcro to the helmet and a piece on all the flowers so I can switch them out according to her outfit. I'm not a super crafty person, but I think they turned out pretty cute...
( thanks to my mom and Boo for the funny & experimental craft night!)
The first batch of flowers... I got a little carried away- I have about 10 now and am continuing to think of more color combo's!! In this picture I can't tell if she's annoyed with me for taking so many pictures, or loving the attention- maybe a bit of both I think! Oh... the many many colors of felt to choose from- why is felt so cute?!
2 Months to Go!!

  1. Those flowers are so cute. I want to make some bow for London's hair with the felt. Will you teach me how. They are so cute and i think it is a perfect solution to the helmet...and she is still way cute with it.

Mine were Mandy Moore and all Asians as well. Jason looked like Claire Daines!!!! Twice with different pics. So funny. It also said he looked like Ashton Kutcher which made him feel better about himself.

  5. Chels, I am going to cry! You are such a great little Mommy! You went to all that work making those ADORABLE little flowers for your baby girl! When you mentioned how mixed your emotions have been, I realized how hard that would actually be! Tate is so cute and pretty soon she'll be helmet free! And someday she'll look at these photos and read your sweet comments, and she'll realized just how much LOVE her Mommy has for her! Tate is one Lucky little Lady!

  11. Are kidding me? That is such a cute idea! I'm thinking you should turn that into a business (coming from a girl who's had 3 of my own). There are lots of cute little kiddos out there who need a little bling on their helmets too!

  12. Really that is the cutest idea! And I'm sure one day Tate will look back and love how much you cared for her to do that! Those would really work for anything! I even want some, where do I buy? Anyways, when I was updating our blog I tried but it isn't half as cool as the 100 you did! And me too, there were so many you wrote that sound just like me! I wanted to delete some things but Preston wouldn't let me. So now the world knows!

  13. Chelsea-
I saw your comment on Becca's blog and had to see what you were talking about. I absolutely think you should start a business! This is the most creative thing I have ever seen done with one of these bity helmets. Your little Tate is so darling, by the way. I have a business, too and I think this is a brilliant idea. Drop me a quick email if you will, I have more to say but it would take up all your blog comment space:

  14. Hey Chelsea, I don't think you know me, but I found your blog on one of my friends pages. I am a friend of Melanie Buma (now Rawlins) and I just wanted to say how darling your little girl is and that she is the cutest little stink in a helmet. I work at Primary Children's, and I see a TON of these kiddos with plagiocephaly and I totally think you could market the flower idea to kids that have to wear these cute little helmets. And again, I praise you for being such a great mom and can't imagine how emotional something like that would be. Keep it up! Ashley Owens

  19. The flowers are great!! I too like her little curls poking out the top, it's like the opposite of receeding hair. She looks adorable as ever and take it from someone who wore forest gump braces, she'll find the photos endearing when she's older.
